Is There a Cultural Shift in AI Research?
I would say a general trend, perhaps, in the AI research for not just developers, but even academics have been making a shift towards being more forward thinking. We do have some responsibility to understand these technologies that we're building, I mean, are increasingly powerful and are likely to have a social impact. So it isn't something we can ignore that this is a technology that bears a lot of promise for societal impact. It's also hard to know how your research could really impact like a real person in the real world.
