I Think It's a Kind of Comforting Fiction

I think the reason this narrative is around is because people want to feel like they are quote unquote on the right side of history I think it tees the idea that Russia is a kind of colonial empire. It fits into a lot of the positive things that people in the west tell themselves about themselves but it doesn't really map on to the reality. If you can tell yourself that Russia is going to dissolve and as a result there is no longer going to be a country which is recognizably Russia then we the west Ukraine don't have to think about how to live next to Russia because Russia won't exist, he says.
