Radical feminist, activist and writer Elly Arrow joins me today to discuss the many harms of pornography and prostitution. Elly shares her journey from liberal feminism into radical feminism after seeing the real and brutal harms pornography inflicted on women and girls in her life. We cover problems with the term ‘sex worker’ and other trade myths, the intentional erosion of boundaries and agency for women in the sex trade, and the bizarre belief that regulating the industry will protect women from the dehumanizing and medically dangerous conditions inherent in the trade. We also speak of the loneliness of sex buyers, the correlations between the sex trade, surrogacy and obstetric abuse and the relationship between marginalized demographics and sex trade capitalism.
Elly advocates for the abolition of the sex industry and blogs extensively on The Invisible Man - Germany, where you can find quotes, analyses, statistics, and more on the men who create the demand for the sex trade in the first place. She educates on the intersection of female poverty, lack of rights for migrant women, intimate partner violence and sexual trauma.
