Damon Runyon was a writer who wrote about colorful characters in the old Broadway area of Manhattan. His stories were typically would focus on colorful language, these bets and this desire to like "wait, do you have the race and forum?" He created Arnold the Brain Rothstein and Titanic Thompson as larger than life personas that he used for his writing style. The story behind Guys and Dolls mostly takes place in one deli called Lindy's.
