The Rise and Fall of Detective Fiction
The case against detective fiction has been weakened by the entry of so many high caliber writers into the field. Joyce Carol Oates, AS Biatt and Eleanor Caton are among those who have used crime as a prominent feature in their writing. I think that some of the mistake of even Wilson's title is thinking that mystery, the fascination with mystery novels or crime fiction, whatever we're going to call it, involves caring who killed Roger Penrose. Sometimes you're just in it, you're along for the ride with just a terrific narrator and I'm probably pretty close to being the voice of your author.
