Economic growth was central to creating stable political regimes in what we refer to as the West or the West in Japan. So yes, growth was critical and it was fantastic. It was a rate of growth, sustained growth that hadn't been seen in a very, very long time. In countries like Germany they opted for austerity. The other thing that governments did most prominently I think is that they all went protectionist.
