I think it should grow naturally, like start with a few people and figure out what you guys want. In my life it happens more than anything else in classrooms just because I spend so much time in classrooms. That's a natural starting point. Students, they already have a common interest. And then as far as how do you find that friend? You can go on meetup.com to post a thing and then people meet up with you if there's enough people around your area. If you just know one person that will go and do this thing with you, then maybe word of mouth, you guys could get slowly get more people to join and it'll become what you all wanted to
