The gold standard is pure white, with strands that are 14 microns wide and 36 millimeters long. A really good cashmere sweater will feel peachy or creamy plush. Mongolia has responded to this boom in demand by cranking up cashmere production. Since 1990, the country's goat population has exploded from $5 million to $27 million.
