Confucius, the Founder of Confucianism
Confucius was one of the most influential thinkers in Chinese history. He is regarded as the founder of Confucianism, a philosophical and ethical system that has had a profound impact on Chinese culture and society. His teachings emphasised education, self-improvement and respectful authority. Despite his influence he could not achieve his dream to become a statesman. Instead he became a magistrate before travelling throughout China spreading his philosophy among students who admired his wisdom and charisma. In 479 BCE he died at the age of 72 and was buried in a grand tomb in Chufu.
