The Importance of Eugenics

By 1912 the eugenics movement is everywhere, politically respectable and internationally influential. For its champions it was the application of cutting-edge science to urgent moral and social issues. Churchill wrote early drafts of the Mental Deficiency Act, which became law in 1913. It allowed for the involuntary institutionalization of those deemed idiots, imbeciles or feeble-minded. But it didn't include enforced sterilization.
