The Origins of the Continental Drift Theory
People had this concept that the earth was pretty old, but the current thinking at the time was like the earth was only around maybe 10 million years old or so. They did this calculation to estimate how long it would take the earth to cool from a ball of hot magma to its current temperature. If you just think about like radiating heat out into space, then it only takes like a few tens of millions of years to cool the earth down to where it is today.
