How Do You Decide to Work in Academi?

Before you've really got a suit hat, yu know, tenure or job security with in academia, how do you think pewish to trade off working on something that's really valuable and important? You think it depends on what their longer term game plan is. I think if you're dead set on the academic career path, then during the ph d, it's probably better to largely prioratize prestige,. maybe keep your fingers in some more directly impact motivated research pies at the same time. But i would advise those people against, say, doing something very applied, which is going to be seen by the academic discipline as not intellectually very demanding.
