The Importance of Breeding Microbes

The concept of breeding microbes or microbial communities is not the same as plant breeding, which has been very successful. One example would be phosphorus arableization. Some microbes are really good at getting phosphorus from some sources in the soil and others are able to get it from other sources. You actually need a diverse array of microbes to efficiently extract those nutrients.
