John Haig, a Woman of a Bright Mind
She was a bright woman. As you say, she'd been involved in the British suffragette movement quite violently too. She had this idea that she had a bit of a tenor for being a business woman. And John Haig seemed perfect because no one knew exactly what he did. But he seemed to be some light, simple engineer. In those post-war years buying fashionable clothes or products was not easy. So she had this idea of possibly making plastic fingernails - and they were very successful.
