How to Track a Dog
The old method that you described where someone just hides and then it gets progressively harder. That's actually something we do in our just pet dog classes, just as like a fun activity for the dogs. Play is a more powerful motivator than food for many, many dogs. Food you can get satiated and you're done, play is something you do until you're exhausted. And that engagement of the seeking circus and form of play is a double win.
