The intuition here is that as you raise rates, then it's going to slow down inflation because there's going to be less real economic activity. I think the specter for most central banks is like the 1970s stagflationary period. They never want to go back to that. And so they want to make sure that in the short term, they're constraining or moving the real economy over the long run.
