Is the Old Testament Too Harsh and Unforgiving?

In the old testament, if you screw up and decide that you're not going to do anything about it, then like, look the hell out. And i actually think that's also psychologically accurate. One of the things that's very interesting about the judgmental god in the old testament is that he can be bargained with. Even if you make mistakes, especially if you're unconscious of them, if you haven't learned yet, let's say, then you always have the opportunity to return to the proper path.
