This week it transpired the Boris Johnson Didn't Seek permission from the advisory committee on business appointments, also known as Akkava. Eric Pickles has complained that the rules were designed to offer guidance when good chaps could be expected to observe the letter and spirit of the rules. And he is very far from the first person to ignore these rules. But it is a serious question about conflict of interest. One of the things we've been arguing is that we need to take a tighter grip on the actual conflicts of interest.
