The Downfall of Big Data and Data House Situation
Sally Kohn: Ownership and control of data is definitely a common thread that has come about in recent years. She says the original framing of big data was to just capture everything, even if it'll be useful eventually. Now people are being more judicious about what data they're capturing with cloud services like Amazon's EC2 or Google's GCP. But she warns there will always be some failure modes where third-party systems don't work properly.

Data is a team sport, but it's often difficult for everyone on the team to participate. For a long time the mantra of data tools has been "by developers, for developers", which automatically excludes a large portion of the business members who play a crucial role in the success of any data project.
