The Impact of Decriminalization on Sex Workers

There are two competing bills that are making their way through the New York state legislature, one that would decriminalize sex work. A couple of years ago, there was a 14 hour hearing in Washington, DC on a bill that would have decriminalized sex work in the nation's capital. That bill failed, but as a result of the publicity arrests in DC have dropped over 90%. So there is movement on this issue, Washington state, California, Oregon. Sex workers are increasingly being heard by our elected officials and we are starting to be seen more and more as citizens and constituents and contributors to our community. And I'm just grateful for those voices and I'm grateful.
