The Trend to Exploit Space in Wide Areas

I think coaches now on teams want more control in the centre of the pitch. It's become a case that I can't speak too far, you know, prior to the 2000s because I was not alive and didn't watch a lot of football then but the wings feel like they became the important area. The trend does feel as though the trend has been to try and build up through the middle obviously that's because the goal is in the middle right. What we've been seeing more of lately I think is teams just trying to block out the center of the field so we've just had the community shield game between Arsenal and Manchester City where both teams were doing that.
