In these fields, there isn't often clear institutional oversight. That lends itself to cult dynamics. People tend to come to them with a lot of vulnerability, even desperation. And lastly, there's a fuck ton of power and influence and money to be gained from effectively catering to that vulnerability,. So I think those who are in these fields are need to be especially mindful and careful that we stay away from cult dynamics.
