While completing her PhD in psychology, Victoria realized that traditional academic research couldn’t address her burning questions about consciousness and the soul.

She recalls asking her advisor, “When do we get to ask the interesting questions like, what is the nature of consciousness?” His response — “I don’t know” — led her to seek answers beyond academia.

Her Spiritual Awakening

For Victoria, the road to becoming an intuitive counselor was paved with personal experiences and explorations outside the conventional path. Introduced to various holistic practitioners for her children’s health issues, she discovered a realm she hadn’t known existed.

Working with acupuncturists, craniosacral therapists, astrologers, and medical intuitives, these professionals expanded her understanding of healing.

Raised with no spiritual or religious background, these experiences were eye-opening. Yoga and meditation classes in the 90s were her first taste of spirituality. Gradually, Victoria realized that the same intuitive insights she was praised for in academia were her true calling.

Once she began consciously developing her intuition, everything about her life changed for the better. One of the most captivating moments in Victoria’s career came recently, when she was invited back to Yale to give a talk on clinical intuition. Despite some skepticism in the room, many were curious and excited, showing a shift towards embracing intuitive insights even in scientific and academic circles.

What’s fascinating about Victoria’s approach is how she integrates intuition into everyday activities. I agreed and shared a story about pruning my arugula plants in the garden. I asked the plants how to cut them back as I wasn’t sure what would be best. The arugula told me not to worry and that it would guide me on where to cut.

This experience underscores how intuition doesn’t need to be a grand spiritual revelation. It can guide us in simple, practical ways too and even with simple tasks that might be new to you.

Develop Your Intuition

Breathe Love & Magic Victoria suggests three straightforward steps to awaken your intuitive abilities:

1. Notice: Start by recognizing how your intuition is already working for you. Pay attention to moments when you just “know” something without logical explanation. These can be as simple as choosing the fastest checkout line or knowing who’s calling before you look at your phone.

2. Differentiate: Learn to tell the difference between your intuitive insights and your mind’s chatter. Intuition is usually calm and free of emotional charge. On the other hand, fear, anxiety and overthinking tend to come with a lot of emotional noise, not part of your intuition.

3. Trust: Finally, trust your intuition. Even if it’s just in small, low-stakes situations at first, the more you listen, the more evident the guidance will become.

Intuition in Professional Settings

Historically, intuitive insights in professions like medicine or business have often been kept on the down low and left unrecognized. Victoria recalls learning about “clinical intuition,” where doctors rely on gut feelings honed through experience. This phenomenon is increasingly acknowledged today as vital to effective decision-making.

Similarly, Victoria points out that intuition plays a crucial role in other areas of life, such as coaching, parenting and even sports. Trusting your innate abilities can significantly enhance effectiveness and fulfillment in these roles.
