The Importance of Structure in Organizational Science
In the absence of a formal structure of hierarchy, if you eliminate all formal structures, all you're left with is the informal structure. Informal structure refers to ways that work gets done on a day-to-day basis based on relationships people have and influence they exert over each other. The danger is if you get this wrong, you can end up with some pretty toxic work situations. And I won't name names, but there are actually some pretty well-known companies out there that have had articles and high profile publications written about them.
