The NSA, the National Security Agency
The National Security Agency is a secret government agency that we'd like to talk about on this show. The NSA's charter limits its powerful surveillance to the rest of the world, not to US citizens. Up until 2017, the NSA was essentially able to surveil domestic sources with a kind of sketchy interpretation of the 702 provision of the foreign intelligence surveillance act. As of 2017, the New York Times reports that the agency will no longer collect certain internet communications that merely mention a foreign intelligence target.
