confirmation bias describes how people respond to evidence. People usually already have an idea of what they believe if they hear a neutral statement then typically they will take that statement and mold it to fit their own existing beliefs. This flies in the face directly of current philosophy of science as scientists are supposed to look for disconfirming evidence rather than confirming evidence. In order to learn something more or less by definition you have to change your ideas most commonly about something you already haveAn idea about this is a real problem for science teachers who try to teach concepts like force and acceleration.
