Is Germany a Harbinger of Things to Come?
Europe has lucked out so far on the energy front and that it's been pretty mild. Next winter is going to be much harder because of course Europe managed to refill its storage with Russian energy, which won't be available next winter. So even if we get through this winter without having to spend a lot on energy subsidies, next winter they're going to be necessary. There's going to be spending on the green transition as well on the cost of living crisis. And it's not clear that investors are going to be willing to stomach that.
