The drop off in Chinese overseas development finance not only in Africa but around the world that started in 2007 2016 appears to be continuing. China is learning a lot from some of the failures of the past and particularly as it's now having to deal with all of these massive and complicated debt renegotiation processes coming out of Chinese projects. Some of which will for the next two decades be used as sticks to hit China with in terms of kind of bad investments and bad loans like the standard gauge railway. But at the same time the need for China to build international connections particularly in the global south and the need for Chinese companies to remain engaged in the economies of the global south are not going away so you know
