Why Should Pure Mathematics Be Funded?

95% of pure mathematics papers have no relevance, nor are they, nor do they have any appbe applicability in the present day world. As a physicist, i only use the math there are need to solve the problem that are working on. I am not interested in any other math. So i learn math as i go and i only use what's needed. But much of pure mathematics has no applications anywhere as to day. So why should we fund it?
