Organic farming has lower yields, and so you need more land to also produce the same amount of crop. There was 't an regulatory framework that was implemented to advise farmers on what kinds of organic fertilizer to use. The ban also saw the end of the fertilizer subsidy just as global prices for it rocketed. People started face food shortages and risin food prices. A sharp dropping rice shields force the trilankin government towards drastic and expensive action.
