What Is Dark Matter?

There's an argument that was made about 20 years ago that convinced a lot of people that dark matter was probably a particle. We know how much dark matter there was in the very, very early universe because we see its effect on the shape of the universe. But it seems like the big evidence out there sort of maybe points to dark matter being a particle.
