The Myth of the Zone

The opening of China really begins the kind of mythology of the zone. The idea becomes widespread and popular amongst development experts and investors that you can subdivide a nation into areas to make it more attractive for people to come and invest. There's other storylines about like the Shenan airport in Ireland which used to be a place where planes needed to stop to refuel on the way from North America. So this idea of sort of perforating nations is something that sneaks in from the story of tax havenry from manufacturing but all sort of converges on this novel kind of political geographical unit that I call in the book, The Zone.
