The Gilded Age arises in the kind of first-rate orgy of capital accumulation. Our period is unequal because it's characterized by a process of expulsion, right? People who once were assigned a kind of productive role in the system are being expelled from it. And so, you know, even as the capitalist elite went on a new offensive, starting in the 1970s, and successfully brought about a massive upward redistribution of wealth and power, they did so in a different context.
