The best teachers are ones who help kids lose themselves in the content. Daniel Kahneman's book Thinking Fast and Slow is fascinating on this topic where so much of the thinking that we have to do on the sports field is faster than you can have a conscious thought. The average pitch ball and baseball arrives at home plate in four tenths of a second; it takes six tenths ofa second to have aconscious thought. And so what is it that allows some batters to be much more successful? It turns out that it's perception, it's what they're looking at before the ball arrives.
