The Untold Story of the Russian Revolution
The Roman offs were the single biggest landowners in Russia. They got a few quid every time a train was laid, and sold down their land as they made a fortune. The problem was that the more and more land they sold, the lower the general global price of wheat. So what you had this bizarre situation, whereas the landowners were getting richer, but the actual farmers, the peasants were getting poorer. This allowed the Bolsheviks to say to the peasants those Kuilaks, those guys who own land, are the problem. And that precipitated the Holomodor, which is the great Ukrainian famine, which was orchestrated by and engineered by the Bolsheviks.
