I've been mirroring my photos to the Synology app. The bummer about the Synology one is that it like doesn't truly support in the background. There's nothing stopping Google from just pulling the plug on Firebase. Unless you're building something massively that a lot of people are using, it's not going to be a huge concern. I would say 99% of projects that you build are never going to get to point where you're going to have to migrate your database stuff.
