Edna's dog Dinky doesn't make it through the trip and Clark inadvertently leaves him tied to the car bumper accidentally dragging him to his death. Chevy Chase recalled that in the original script, they had a red stripe on the highway trailing behind the station wagon. According to Harold Ramis, while the production was shooting in Colorado, one of the crew members saw a station wagon pulling out of a holiday and parking lot with a dog tied to the bumper. It is amazing that there's a movie with a dead grandma and a dead dog that everyone hails as a classic.
