The Greek Attitude Towards the Persians

Being a Greek meant far less politically and culturally than being an Athenian or current thean. Some Greeks saw much to admire in other cultures, particularly Persian. Slavery was a very common practice in ancient Greece; some ancient writers considered it to be a natural way of life. For example, Euripides gave hints of criticism for slave plays where women are shown as cruel and unjust. Still, though it's dangerous to project modern humanism back into the ancient world, it is important to acknowledge its past.
