The Catastrophe of the Humanities
The number of people who major in humanities departments is in radical decline. Universities have not responded by to this decline by having less PhD students. This has led to an enormous glut of humanist scholars who are essentially not going to be employed. The scariest that I heard was that if you're in an MA seminar, one out of those eight people is going to get a tenure track job.
