War in the Middle Ages was kind of like a big game of rock paper scissors. Pikes get horses because they anchor them in the ground and then drive it into the horse. Arrows can get knights because if you can shoot the knights before they get to you. Robert the Bruce at the Battle of Banik Bern did what all Scots do against British cavalry. He got a bunch of pointy sticks, buried them in theground,. When the cavalry was about to descend upon the knights, they lift up their pointy sticks...
