A lot of most jazz songs have more sophisticated chord progressions and melodies than rock songs. Does this mean in principle that I could have the same melody over a different chord progression? Yes, absolutely. And people do that will read it's called reharmonization. You take a melody and you just put different chords under it. Oh, okay, good.
