In the seventies inflation wasn't constant. An other big spikes in 74, 19 80 and so on. So i see the commodity cycles as explaining why there's this big year to year variation. But i think nominal g d p growth does explain the longer term inflation. And has had side effects like shifting our supply chains overseas.
