The Cold War - The First Milestone

Arms control remained in vogue. States continued negotiating and the treaties kept rolling in. Latin America was established as a nuclear weapons-free zone in 1967, followed by the ocean floor in 1971. Limitations were placed on underground nuclear weapons tests and peaceful nuclear explosions. It's sometimes said today that cooperation on the nuclear question is no longer viable. But these treaties negotiated and signed in the midst of the Cold War show that we mustn't be so defeatist.
