The Dog and Pony Show Is Part of the System
The economy is transforming from what used to be a free competition, innovative society. It's now transforming into a very controlled society. The Gavapoli system grows until it finally renders the host society inoperable and then it collapses. This is a long-term cycle. You don't find any currencies around it or more than a couple hundred years old. They want to make this, the system is now in its final phases where it's taking over. There's no way to resist it. I don't recommend spending a lot of time worrying about it.
