The first few days of Alexander's reign must have been among the most critical of his career. There is infinite scope for speculation and imaginative reconstruction, but the sources themselves allow very little to be said. You don't know major things like whether or not Olympias can accurately be placed at Philip's assassination. It does highlight how difficult a historian's job is trying to piece this stuff together.
