The History of Rice

In World War II, rice plantings delayed, fields foul with weeds were gathered and interned. In 1964, rice production at record highs, 24 years before reparations, the US Board on geographic names designated a summit that overlooks Manzanar as Mount Verstig. "When I was young, my seasons were marked by rice," says author Ken Chiuakuta.
