Kecexia is a wasting condition, even though you're eating food, your body is wasting away. The metastatic tumor cells take in a lot of glutamine and they grab in the glutamine from the muscles. As you gradually kill off these tumor cells, the impetus for kykexia goes down. And then when the patient starts to eat, they will gain weight and become healthy again.

Thomas Seyfried, PhD is a preeminent cancer expert and professor in the department of biology at Boston College. He received a PhD in 1976 in genetics and neurochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, followed by a postdoctoral degree from Yale University in the field of neurochemistry and genetics.
