The Strangling Agency in the Opera Polisings
The strategy put forward by Gregory functions according to the logic of repression, a defense mechanism and key concept in psychoanalysis. The strangling agency simultaneously stifles vitality and removes all trace of the event. My reading of Gaslight is that it operates as an allegory charting the turbulent journey of the artist from the point of innocence towards being able to channel tragedy into her craft.
