The Origins of Water in Creation

In Genesis, or Bersheet, we find that water is in the very first sentence of the Bible. The word heavens is Shama-Yim, which is translated as heavens. But the literal meaning is superior waters. What's important to understand here is the nature of God's spirit. Hovering above these waters, which are yet to be formed, is the spirit, the ruach, which also means breath, the wind. This is the wind of God, or the breath of God, theRuach Elohim.
