In the mid nineteenth century, getting an orchestral performance of a new work was not as simple as getting a commission from an established orchestra. Composers either had to put together what was essentially a pickup band at their own expense, or they had to be picked to perform at the societe de concer du conservatoire. Luckily, ferenc had built enough of a reputation as a composer and pianist and teacher that her symphony was performed in 18 forty nine a few times,. seemingly always paired with beethoven's fifth symphony.
